Charles Huang, Corporate Vice President and President of APAC, is responsible for the company’s global business strategy and oversees the operation of global sales and marketing across regions. In addition to his global management role, Charles also heads the company’s Digital Transformation Committee, which is an effort to revamp HTC’s digital strategy across e-commerce, digital marketing, data intelligence and web engineering.
Prior to HTC, Charles was Vice President of TomTom Asia where he built the business in Asia Pacific from zero and developed extensive distribution network across consumer and enterprise market segments. Charles was one of the founders and Head of Sales of Dopod International, a leading smartphone company across more than ten countries in Asia Pacific and was later acquired by HTC. He was a pioneer in bringing smartphone into many countries in Asia. Charles also worked at Apple and was a consultant for e-commerce strategy at the early stage of his career.
Charles has accumulated more than 20 years business management experience in the tech industry and is specialized in industries such as consumer electronics, consulting, e-commerce, digital marketing, telecommunication, and virtual/augmented reality. He is a frequent speaker in technology forums and conferences. Charles received his master’s degree in Communication Management from University of Southern California and EMBA from National Taiwan University.

Metaverse seems to be the hottest term in tech sector this past year. A couple of tech firms saw massive valuation increase right after the announcement of their plan for Metaverse at the beginning of 2021. A few months later tech giants like Microsoft and nVidia also announced their ambitions in the Metaverse. At the end of Oct Facebook showed their determination to bet the company’s future on the Metaverse by changing company name to Meta. The term Metaverse seems new but actually it is not a new concept. The term first appeared in Neal Stephenson’s novel Snow Crash published in 1992. In the novel people use digital avatars to explore the virtual world, often as a way of escaping a dystopian reality.
Mobile communication has evolved from 2G to 5G over the past 20 years. The way people communicate has gone through a few stages, moving from sending text to photo sharing and then to video streaming. Technology transformation enables new experience and changes human life. Some may say a real 5G killer application is yet to come. However, the trend is obvious that we are moving toward a more immersive and interactive world. The way people digest content will longer be just watch, listen, or read. People will get into the content itself to experience it. That experience itself is the essence of Metaverse.
HTC started the development of Metaverse related technology and ecosystem since 2015. From the beginning, our VIVE Reality vision has been to merge technology with humanity to unleash people’s imagination. In this year’s TSIA annual convention, we will introduce the ecosystem we have been cultivating with global partners and share real-life applications across a few key industries. We will also share how we see the market.
